Questions to ask before hiring a mobile developer

Good questions reveal how a developer thinks, works and handles uncertainty. Ask about relevant deliveries, technical decisions and the practical terms of collaboration. Clear answers matter more than confident promises about speed or technology.

Discuss experience and responsibility

Ask which parts of previous apps the developer delivered and what constraints they handled. Discuss platform testing, backend integration and release work. Request examples of difficult problems and the reasoning behind a solution. Distinguish individual contributions from the overall success of a product built by a larger team.

Examine the delivery process

How are requirements documented, estimates updated and changes approved? How often will you see usable software? Who handles quality assurance and production issues? Ask about code reviews, documentation and account access. A sensible process should make mistakes visible and recoverable rather than claim that problems never occur.

Clarify commercial and handover terms

Discuss payment milestones, source code ownership, licensing and maintenance responsibilities. Confirm what is excluded from the quote. Agree how another person could continue the work. Be cautious about unexplained estimates or dependence on accounts you cannot access; reliable collaboration should leave the project understandable and transferable.
