The stages of building a mobile app

A mobile app project moves from discovery to design, implementation, testing and operation. Each stage should reduce uncertainty and produce something reviewable. The process works best when business decisions and technical delivery stay connected.

Discover, specify and prototype

Research the users and validate the problem. Define the essential journeys, constraints and acceptance criteria in a brief. Create wireframes and a clickable prototype, then test the confusing parts before development. Confirm the release scope and budget so that the team knows what the first version must achieve.

Implement and validate progressively

Build in small increments with regular demonstrations. Coordinate mobile interfaces, backend services and administration needs. Test critical behaviour, accessibility and failures continuously rather than saving all validation for the final week. Keep scope changes explicit and check their impact on delivery and budget.

Release and improve

Prepare store accounts, assets, privacy information and operational monitoring. Complete acceptance checks on representative devices and confirm support responsibilities. After launch, collect feedback and measure the chosen product outcomes. Maintenance, platform updates and iterative improvements are part of keeping the product useful, not an optional continuation of a finished project.
